GB Elections 2026: PPP Takes Early Lead as Counting Continues

GB elections 2026 results PPP early lead vote counting Gilgit Baltistan assembly seats June 8 2026

Unofficial GB elections 2026 results show PPP in the lead as vote count is underway in the GB elections 2026. Geo News confirmed the early trend, while Dawn reported PPP has alleged delay in issuance of Form-45 — and PTI has also made rigging allegations.

Counting on all 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly is ongoing. No final results have been officially declared yet.

What We Know So Far ABOUT GB elections 2026 results

Polling concluded on June 7 at 5 PM. Counting began immediately. Over 958,480 registered voters were eligible to cast ballots across 1,368 polling stations.

Early unofficial trends reported by Geo News suggest PPP is winning more seats than other parties. However, these are preliminary numbers and the picture could change significantly as counting from remote areas continues.

Neither PML-N nor PTI-backed independents have officially conceded or claimed victory at this stage.

Both PPP and PTI Allege Problems

Dawn’s live election coverage confirmed PPP has alleged delay in the issuance of Form-45 — the official document showing counted results from each polling station. Without Form-45, parties cannot verify whether counted numbers match what happened at the station.

PTI has also made rigging allegations, though specific details of their claims have not been fully reported at the time of writing.

These allegations are common in Pakistani elections, especially in GB where political competition is intense and margins are often thin.

Why This Election Matters

The last GB election in 2020 was won dominantly by PTI with 16 out of 24 seats. But PTI’s Chief Minister was later disqualified over a fake degree scandal. The party also could not use its bat symbol this time because the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan prohibited it.

Al Jazeera’s Pakistan coverage and The Nation have both noted that whoever wins will control development spending in one of Pakistan’s most strategically important regions. GB borders China (CPEC corridor), Afghanistan, and Indian-administered Kashmir.

The elected government will negotiate local benefits from CPEC Phase 2, manage tourism infrastructure, and handle climate disaster response — including glacial lake outburst floods that threaten lives every year.
