BAN vs PAK 1st Test Day 4: Bangladesh Lead by 179, Rain Cuts Play Short in Mirpur

BAN vs PAK 1st Test Day 4 at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium Mirpur May 2026

Bangladesh extended their grip on the opening Test against Pakistan on Day 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, though heavy rain and bad light robbed the match of a full day’s play.

BAN vs PAK 1st Test Day 4: Bangladesh lead Pakistan by 179 runs, with Shanto on 58 not out and Mominul having scored 56, as Bangladesh’s second innings reads 152 for 3. With the match in its final day on Monday, May 12, a draw looks the most likely result — but Pakistan will need to bat out of trouble if Bangladesh declare early and set a target.

BAN vs PAK Summary: Where the Match Stands

  • Bangladesh 1st Innings: 413 all out
  • Pakistan 1st Innings: 386 all out (Azan Awais 103, Abdullah Fazal 60; Mehidy Hasan Miraz 5 for 102, Taijul Islam 2 for 46)
  • Bangladesh 2nd Innings: 152 for 3 — lead by 179 runs at stumps on Day 4

The first Test is being played in Mirpur from May 8 to 12, 2026, as part of Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh. The Pakistan national cricket team is currently in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27.

How Day 4 Unfolded: Rain, Resilience, and a Milestone

The afternoon session was wiped out entirely by torrential rains, with Bangladesh solid either side of it, thanks primarily to a 105-run stand between Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto — their century partnership this Test, and just the third time a pair has done so for Bangladesh.

Both batters brought up fifties during the innings. Pakistan’s seam bowlers threatened early after removing the openers cheaply once more, but found themselves held up by the two left-handers, with a late strike from Shaheen Shah Afridi in the final session the only triumph they had to show for the rest of the day.

Pakistan’s First Innings Bright Spots: Azan Awais Shines

Despite the difficult match situation, Pakistan’s first innings produced a genuine bright spot.

Opener Azan Awais hit an unbeaten 85 on Day 2, with Abdullah Fazal contributing 37 not out as Pakistan reached 179 for 1 at stumps. Awais went on to complete a composed century — 103 runs — in Pakistan’s total of 386, making him one of the standout performers of the Test so far.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz produced a brilliant five-wicket haul to steer Bangladesh into a narrow first-innings lead over Pakistan. His figures of **5 for 102** were central to Bangladesh’s ability to restrict Pakistan and take a first-innings advantage.

What Comes Next: BAN vs PAK Day 5 and the Road to Sylhet

The Test looks destined for a draw after the entire second session on Day 4 was washed out by torrential rain in Mirpur. However, if Bangladesh bat quickly on Day 5 and declare with a target of around 300, the final session could still produce a tense finish.

The second Test is scheduled to begin in Sylhet on May 16, 2026, as part of Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh. Pakistan will need to regroup quickly after this Test and find answers to their batting consistency issues before the second game begins.

Looking further ahead, Pakistan fans have a busy home season to anticipate. The Pakistan vs Australia ODI series begins on May 30, 2026, with the first match at Rawalpindi, with the second game to be staged at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on June 2.
