Zombeid Review: Pakistan’s First Zombie Film Earns Rs21 Crore. But Is It Worth Watching?

Zombeid Review 2026 Pakistani zombie thriller film poster Fahad Mustafa Karachi Chand Raat Mehwish Hayat

Pakistan’s cinema industry just did something it has never done before here’s a full Zombeid Review & News.

The official trailer described it as Pakistan’s first zombie survival thriller. And it worked at the box office. Wikipedia’s Zombeid entry confirmed that by June 2, 2026, Zombeid had grossed Rs21.34 crore (US$760,000) at the box office in Pakistan — becoming the highest-grossing film released during Eid al-Adha in the country.

That is a real number. That is a milestone. But does the film deserve it?

What Zombeid Actually Is

Wikipedia describes Zombeid as a 2026 Pakistani Urdu-language zombie thriller directed by Nabeel Qureshi, produced by Filmwala Pictures and distributed by Geo Films. It stars Fahad Mustafa, Mehwish Hayat, and Babar Ali. Set in Karachi on Chand Raat, the film follows a fighter, a Zumba instructor, and other civilians trying to survive a zombie outbreak that begins after a prototype steroid injection is consumed at a mixed martial arts cage match.

This marks the fourth collaboration between Fahad Mustafa, Mehwish Hayat, and director Nabeel Qureshi — following Na Maloom Afraad (2014), Actor in Law (2016), and Load Wedding (2018) — and their first reunion on screen in eight years.

Think about what that setup means. Chand Raat in Karachi. The most chaotic night of the year. Add zombies. Setting a zombie outbreak on Chand Raat is a stroke of storytelling — the streets of Karachi on the night before Eid are already barely controlled madness, and when the undead arrive into that world, the horror hits with a specificity that no Hollywood zombie film could replicate.

What Works: The Effects and Fahad Mustafa

Pakistani Cinema’s review called the makeup and effects genuinely impressive — top-tier work that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world. Every muscle tear, every blood splatter, and every zombie felt real.

For the Pakistani cinema context, that matters enormously. Low-budget effects have killed many local productions before audiences even give them a chance.

Movieshoovy’s review was direct: if there is one undeniable reason to buy a ticket for Zombeid, it is Fahad Mustafa. Stepping far away from his familiar territory of charming, fast-talking protagonists, Mustafa delivers a powerhouse performance. A seamless transition from beloved rom-com star into a rugged, intensely believable action hero.

Pakistani Cinema also praised the sound design — you could hear every bone crack and muscle tear, which added invaluably to the experience.

What Does Not Work

This is where honest reviews separate themselves from promotional coverage.

Movieshoovy noted the most glaring flaw is how the film treats industry veteran Babar Ali. Sporting a superb post-apocalyptic look that promised an unforgettable character arc, he is unfortunately given next to nothing to do.

Wikipedia’s critical summary cited uneven editing, underdeveloped characters, familiar dialogue, and an uneven soundtrack. Writing for Dawn Images, Hufsa Chaudhry gave the film 6.5 out of 10, praising the topical jokes and allusions to Karachi culture while criticising the film’s basic zombie lore and lack of deeper thematic development.

The Honest ZOMBEID REVIEW & RATING

Pakistani Cinema put it plainly: Zombeid is not going to outdo Train to Busan or Shaun of the Dead, but it is a solid first attempt at a big-budget zombie film from Pakistan. It is gorey, it is bloody, and it is fun.

My score: 6.5 out of 10

Watch it for Fahad Mustafa’s action performance, the impressive effects, and the genuinely clever Chand Raat setting. Do not go in expecting deep character work or a tight plot. Go in expecting a fun, bloody Pakistani Eid film that did something nobody here has done before.

That, in itself, is worth celebrating.
